Building carpenter bee traps. You can plug the holes all you want. They come back every year and dig further.
The last picture is of the new design .
These aren’t pretty but they are not made of fancy wood. They are made to work.
We now have two designs. One mounts under the joists the other mounts to the structure.
Excepting cashapp and chime.
Pollen and carpenter bees:
Yes, female carpenter bees heavily invest in their offspring, though not in the way social bees do. They are solitary, so each female works alone to chew wood tunnels, create individual brood cells, and provide a mixture of pollen and nectar ("bee bread") for her larvae before sealing them away.
Only the females have a stinger .
Females: Entirely black and shiny abdomen.
Males: Often have a yellow or white spot on their face.
Do birds eat carpenter bees?
Yes, woodpeckers are the primary bird predator of carpenter bees, specifically targeting their larvae. They can hear the larvae in wood tunnels, often tearing open the wood—causing more damage than the bees themselves—to eat them. Other birds like purple martins, mockingbirds, and swifts may eat adult bees, but woodpeckers are the main threat to larvae.
